In a significant move toward advancing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, ABB has secured a contract from EV infrastructure company Polara to supply compact secondary substation (CSS) skid-mounted power distribution units. This collaboration aims to facilitate efficient charging for electric vehicle fleets across Canada and the United States.

Polara's CEO, Sébastien Fournier, expressed confidence in ABB's capabilities, citing their extensive experience in grid applications and proven engineering as pivotal factors for selecting them. The partnership focuses on creating a cost-effective solution that meets the specific needs of EV fleet charging.

As part of this collaboration, ABB is providing power distribution skids for Polara's CHRGPK, a modular unit available in various sizes to accommodate different fleet sizes. Each CHRGPK unit is equipped with a CSS housing low- to medium-voltage switchgear up to 40.5 kV, transformers, and a low-voltage switchboard with protection devices.

These pre-engineered modular skids, assembled and tested at the factory, promise to reduce engineering time, risks, and installation complexity, offering a plug-and-play solution that enhances safety. According to Fournier, the custom-engineered solutions can be replicated for future rollouts, addressing the burgeoning market demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
