ABB Invests $100 Million in Expanded Canadian Manufacturing Hub
ABB announced a CA$130 million (approx. US$100 million) investment to expand its research, development, and production capacity in Montreal, Quebec. This new greenfield site will consolidate its existing Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu facilities into a single, larger 340,000 sq. ft. location. The facility will support over 600 current employees and aims to create additional jobs as production grows.
The investment targets growing demand in sectors such as utilities, renewables, transportation, buildings, and infrastructure across Canada. The new facility will feature advanced automation and digital technologies, and is designed to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by over 95% compared to the combined previous sites.
Khalid Mandri, President of ABB Installation Products, stated that the move will enhance ABB's ability to support grid resilience, power distribution, and renewable energy projects nationwide. The site is slated to open by mid-2027 and has secured CA$16 million funding from Investissement Québec.
This represents ABB's largest investment in Canada to date, adding to the US$275 million spent over the past decade on innovation and manufacturing development. ABB sources 70% of materials locally, with 100% Canadian steel and aluminum used in products sold domestically.
