ABB Strengthens India’s Renewable Energy Manufacturing with Wind Converter Launch

19 Jan 2026
ABB India Ltd has marked a milestone in the country’s renewable energy sector by dispatching its first domestically manufactured wind power converter from its Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru. The shipment follows ABB’s acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in December 2025, reflecting a strategic focus on wind energy.

The converter was delivered to a wind turbine original equipment manufacturer, highlighting ABB’s commitment to strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure. The move aligns with the ‘Make in India’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, emphasizing local manufacturing’s role in the energy transition.

The integration of Gamesa Electric’s technologies into ABB’s portfolio is aimed at enhancing capabilities in power electronics, grid integration, and utility-scale renewable solutions. With India currently the third-largest wind manufacturing base globally, the country is projected to meet approximately 10% of global wind demand and expand installed wind capacity to 107 GW by 2030.

Globally, ABB has delivered over 60,000 wind converters and generators. The acquisition allows the company to offer comprehensive solutions across wind, solar, and battery storage, and expand its serviceable installed base by around 46 GW.

By producing renewable energy technologies locally, ABB India is positioning itself as a key player in supporting India’s target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030 while contributing to global clean energy adoption.
