ABB to Acquire Premium Power in Strategic Expansion
ABB has entered into an agreement to acquire Premium Power, an electrical engineering consultancy headquartered near Dublin, Ireland. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 2001, Premium Power employs over 40 engineers and specialists, providing services such as power system studies, grid compliance modelling, arc flash assessments, power quality audits, electrical design, and risk management training. Its clients include multinational manufacturers, data centers, and pharmaceutical companies, where electrical resilience and uptime are critical.
The acquisition strengthens ABB’s Electrification Service advisory portfolio – ABB Navigate – by adding expertise in grid connection, compliance, and electrical safety, enabling customers to assess, plan, and future-proof complex electrical systems. The move aligns with ABB’s strategy to expand its advisory capabilities and provide deeper, system-level support across Europe.
Stuart Thompson, President of ABB’s Electrification Service division, said the acquisition enhances ABB’s ability to advise on complex power systems, particularly for mission-critical sectors. Paula O’Neill, Managing Director of Premium Power, emphasized that joining ABB will allow the company to scale its engineering impact while maintaining its technical depth and customer focus.
The transaction represents a strategic bolt-on investment, reflecting ABB’s continued focus on electrification, energy resilience, and expanding services to meet growing demand for reliable, complex electrical infrastructure.
