ACCIONA Energía’s MacIntyre Wind Farm Powers Up in Queensland

10 Oct 2024
ACCIONA Energía has announced that the initial 27 turbines of the MacIntyre Wind Farm in Queensland, Australia, are now operational and connected to the grid. The turbines are generating a combined 154 MW of renewable energy, marking the project's first power generation milestone. The wind farm, with a total planned capacity of 923 MW, will be progressively completed over the next 12 months.

With 162 Delta4000 turbines, each rated at 5.7 MW, the MacIntyre Wind Farm will supply renewable energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) to Stanwell Corp. and CleanCo--key players in Queensland's public energy sector. This energy will support the decarbonisation of industries such as infrastructure, retail, and transport.

Ark Energy, a subsidiary of Korea Zinc, holds a 30% stake in the project and plans to use its share of the power for decarbonising the operations of Sun Metals Corp. in Townsville, aiming to produce the world's first green zinc.

Part of the larger 2 GW MacIntyre Wind Precinct, which includes the Herries Range Wind Farm, the MacIntyre Wind Farm is set to become the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, furthering Queensland's renewable energy ambitions.
