Acciona Energía Wins Major CfD for 189 MW Solar Facility in Croatia

6 Aug 2024
Acciona Energía, the Spanish energy developer, has secured a 12-year contract for difference (CfD) to develop the 189 MW Promina solar project in southern Croatia. The project, located in Sibenik-Knin county, is set to become the largest solar farm in the country upon its completion in 2027.

The CfD, awarded by Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije (HROTE) and approved by the European Commission, aims to boost renewable electricity production and support the EU's decarbonization goals. As part of the deal, Acciona Energía will also construct a new 400 kV interconnection substation to link the facility to the Croatian grid.

Acciona Energía has been active in Croatia since 2013 with its 30 MW Jelinak wind complex and is currently expanding its footprint with additional wind projects, including Opor (27 MW) and Boraja II (45 MW). Once operational, the Promina solar project will contribute to approximately 8% of Croatia's total clean energy capacity and 20% of its solar capacity.
