Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. to Build India’s Largest HVDC System for Renewable Energy
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India's leading private transmission and distribution company, has won its largest-ever project--a $2.89 billion High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) contract connecting Bhadla (Rajasthan) to Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh). The project aims to evacuate 6 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan's Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) to northern demand centers.
Awarded under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, this massive infrastructure project will involve 2,400 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines and 7,500 MVA capacity. REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) facilitated the bidding process, formally transferring the Special Purpose Vehicle to AESL on January 20, 2025.
AESL CEO Kandarp Patel commented, "By enabling efficient evacuation of renewable energy from some of the most inhospitable regions of the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL is playing its role in India's decarbonization journey."
This achievement raises AESL's order book to $6.33 billion, while expanding its operational network to 25,778 ckm of transmission lines and 84,186 MVA of transformation capacity. Scheduled for completion in 4.5 years under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, the project reinforces AESL's leadership in sustainable energy transmission.
