RWE and Amazon have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 110 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind power from RWE’s Nordseecluster B project in the German North Sea. The agreement builds on a Strategic Framework Agreement signed in June 2025, under which RWE supports Amazon’s carbon-free energy goals while Amazon Web Services provides cloud, AI, and data analytics to advance RWE’s digital transformation.

The 110 MW capacity is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 139,000 German households annually. The Nordseecluster offshore wind farm, located around 50 kilometres north of the island of Juist, is being developed in two phases: Nordseecluster A, with 660 MW capacity, is under construction and scheduled for commissioning in 2027, while Nordseecluster B will add 900 MW with commercial operation expected in 2029. The project is jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).

Ulf Kerstin, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Supply & Trading, said PPAs like this are “crucial for accelerating Germany’s decarbonisation while strengthening long‑term security of supply.”

The agreement supports Amazon’s net-zero carbon goal by 2040. In Germany, Amazon already operates six on-site solar projects and has four large-scale offshore wind PPAs, which collectively generate enough renewable energy to power over 1,000,000 homes annually.

This PPA also marks the first RWE-Amazon collaboration outside the United States and is part of Amazon’s global commitment to renewable energy.
