Ameresco, Inc. and United Power, Inc. have completed the construction of what is now Colorado's largest distributed battery energy storage system. This milestone marks Ameresco's largest wholly owned battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio to date.

The newly constructed BESS assets, spread across multiple sites, provide a combined capacity of 78.3 MW and 313.34 MWh. Five of these sites are already operational, with the remaining three expected to come online by the end of summer. The systems, located in Adams, Broomfield, and Weld counties, are crucial for enhancing load balancing and integrating renewable resources within United Power's distribution network.

"This expansion in our storage capability is vital for a resilient power grid," said Mark A. Gabriel, President and CEO of United Power. "These systems will help us manage power needs throughout the day and better incorporate local renewables."

Ameresco has also integrated Stem's AI-driven clean energy software to optimize the operation and maintenance of these systems, enhancing grid reliability and resource management.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at United Power's Bromley Substation in Brighton, CO to celebrate the completion of the BESS assets.
