Arevon Energy Begins $600M Cormorant Energy Storage Project in Daly City
Arevon Energy has started construction of its $600 million Cormorant Energy Storage Project in Daly City, California. The facility, now expanded to 250 MW/1,000 MWh from its original 188 MW/752 MWh design, is expected to enter commercial operation in 2027.
The project will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology to store electricity for later distribution. A long-term offtake agreement is in place with MCE, a regional electricity provider serving over 1.8 million customers across Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties.
Primoris Services Corp. – Renewables group is handling engineering, procurement, and construction. Peak construction is expected to employ around 175 workers. Over its lifetime, the project is projected to generate more than $73 million in property tax revenue, supporting local schools, infrastructure, and public services.
Justin Johnson, Arevon Energy’s CEO, emphasized the project’s role in improving grid reliability and advancing California’s clean energy goals. Shanelle Montana, the company’s chief development officer, highlighted ongoing community engagement throughout construction and operations.
The Cormorant project is part of Arevon Energy’s broader portfolio, which includes over 3.7 GW of renewable energy projects across California and Indiana, with an estimated $5 billion in capital investment. Recent initiatives include the operational Peregrine Energy Storage Project, Eland 1 Solar-plus-Storage Project, Vikings Solar-plus-Storage Project, Condor Energy Storage Project, and the under-construction Nighthawk Energy Storage Project.
