Avangrid Extends PPA with Xcel Energy for 150 MW MinnDakota Wind Farm
Avangrid has extended its long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Xcel Energy for electricity generated by the 150 MW MinnDakota Wind Farm, located along the Minnesota–South Dakota border.
The agreement ensures the onshore wind facility will continue supplying renewable electricity to customers served by Xcel Energy in the Upper Midwest. Financial terms and the length of the extension were not disclosed.
MinnDakota has been operating as part of Avangrid’s growing U.S. renewable energy portfolio and contributes to regional clean energy supply. The project supports grid decarbonization efforts while delivering wind-generated power to thousands of homes and businesses.
In addition to energy production, the wind farm contributes to local economies through employment opportunities and tax revenues that support public services and infrastructure.
Avangrid, the U.S. subsidiary of Spain-based energy group Iberdrola, operates 10 generation facilities across Minnesota and South Dakota, totaling approximately 900 MW of installed capacity.
The PPA extension reflects continued demand for long-term renewable energy contracts in the U.S. utility sector, particularly in wind-rich Midwest markets.
