Avangrid, Inc., a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group, has announced the commercial operation of True North Solar, its largest solar project to date. The 238 MWac (321 MWdc) facility, located in Falls County, Texas, is now supplying power to the grid and supporting Meta's upcoming data center in Temple.

With over 488,000 solar panels, True North will generate enough electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes annually. The project aligns with the growing energy demands of U.S. data centers, which, according to a U.S. Department of Energy report, could account for 12% of national power consumption by 2028.

Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid, emphasized the project's role in strengthening Texas's energy grid and supporting economic growth. The facility represents a $369 million investment and is expected to contribute over $40 million in property taxes, benefiting public services and local schools.

The project created around 300 construction jobs and will sustain several full-time operational roles. Mart Independent School District (ISD) Superintendent B. Springston highlighted the additional funding for STEM education, school facilities, and student services.

Construction partners included ARRAY Technologies, which supplied U.S.-made solar trackers, and Black & Veatch, responsible for engineering and construction.

With True North operational, Avangrid now operates seven renewable energy projects in Texas, totaling nearly 1.6 GW of capacity and over $2 billion in investments.
