Boralex and SNGRDC Commission Hagersville Battery Storage Facility in Ontario
Boralex and the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) have commissioned the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park, a 300MW/1.2GWh grid-scale battery storage facility in Ontario.
The project can deliver up to four hours of continuous electricity at full capacity to the provincial grid. It is designed to enhance grid stability and support the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
The facility uses 334 Tesla Megapack 2XL lithium-ion battery units. It was jointly developed by Boralex and SNGRDC, building on previous renewable energy partnerships between the two organizations.
Civil works were delivered by A6N General Partnerships, a company majority-owned by SNGRDC alongside Aecon, while construction partner Borea Construction supported development activities.
With the project now operational, Boralex’s total installed energy storage capacity in Canada reaches 380MW/1.52GWh. SNGRDC’s operational capacity increases to 550MW/2.2GWh, with four additional battery projects currently under development. The organization reports holding 1GW of battery storage capacity across North America.
According to Patrick Decostre, President and CEO of Boralex, the commissioning marks a key milestone in the company’s 2030 strategic plan and reflects growing investment in grid infrastructure to support decarbonisation and energy reliability.
A formal inauguration event is scheduled for spring 2026.
