British Columbia’s $12M Push for Innovation in Clean Energy

6 May 2025
The Government of British Columbia, in collaboration with BC Hydro, has launched the Clean Power Action Plan, a wide-reaching strategy to expand the province's clean electricity supply, drive economic growth, and support climate and energy goals.

Premier David Eby said the plan will "secure our energy and our economy for the future" by boosting clean-energy infrastructure and supporting local job creation. Key elements include a second call for up to 5,000 GWh/year of clean energy, a $12 million investment from the Innovative Clean Energy Fund, and fast-tracked access to BC's electrical grid.

The plan emphasizes partnerships with First Nations, supporting Indigenous ownership in clean-energy projects. The 2024 power call saw First Nations hold 49-51% ownership in 10 wind and solar projects worth up to $6 billion.

Minister Adrian Dix called the plan a "bold" response to external challenges and an opportunity to foster innovation and resilience.

The action plan also supports CleanBC goals through electrification of homes, businesses, and industry, backed by a $36-billion infrastructure plan and $700 million in energy-efficiency investments.

Chris O'Riley, CEO of BC Hydro, said the initiatives aim to maintain affordability while ensuring a reliable, renewable energy future.
