BSH Approves Iberdrola’s $1.07 Billion Windanker Offshore Wind Project in Germany

2 Apr 2025
Iberdrola has received approval from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for its 315MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. With construction set to begin soon, the project marks a significant step in the company's expansion in Germany's renewable energy sector.

The $1.07 billion Windanker project will feature 21 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines, each with 15MW capacity, generating clean energy for approximately 315,000 households. Spanish manufacturer Windar is currently fabricating the foundation structures, with offshore installation scheduled for summer 2025.

Iberdrola holds a 51% majority stake in the project, while Japanese energy firm Kansai owns 49% following its investment in December 2024. The company has already secured power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the facility's electricity output.

Windanker is Iberdrola's third offshore wind project in Germany, joining the 350MW Wikinger and 476MW Baltic Eagle wind farms. Together, these projects will form the Baltic Hub, reaching a combined 1.1GW capacity by 2026, with total investments exceeding $3.95 billion.
