BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company have signed a contract for the world's largest grid-scale battery storage project, with a capacity of 12.5GWh. This significant agreement bolsters Saudi Arabia's renewable energy ambitions, aligning with the nation's Vision 2030 goal to achieve an energy mix of 50% renewables.

Combined with a previous 2.6GWh project, the partnership now totals 15.1GWh in energy storage capacity, marking a pivotal step in Saudi Arabia's energy transition. The battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be deployed across five sites, utilizing BYD's MC Cube-T ESS and its innovative CTS (Cell-to-System) technology, designed to enhance energy efficiency and stability.

This project aims to support Saudi Arabia's power transmission network by addressing challenges from increasing renewable energy sources, ensuring reliable power supply, and meeting peak energy demands.
