Cloverleaf Infrastructure Secures $300 Million for Clean-Powered Data Centers

19 Jul 2024
Cloverleaf Infrastructure has successfully raised over $300 million in capital commitments from private equity investors NGP and Sandbrook Capital ("Sandbrook"), alongside contributions from its management team. The funds will be used to develop large-scale clean-powered data center sites across the US.

Cloverleaf Infrastructure, headquartered in Houston and Seattle, is a newly-formed developer specializing in low-carbon digital infrastructure. The company's leadership team includes experienced executives from renowned power developers and data center operators such as Pattern Energy, ConnectGen, and Microsoft.

Cloverleaf collaborates with regional US utilities and data center operators to provide scalable clean electricity. This is achieved through strategic investments in transmission, grid interconnection, land, onsite power generation, and electricity storage.

David Berry, CEO of Cloverleaf, emphasized the significant opportunity to modernize the US grid and transition to a sustainable electricity system. "The rapid growth in demand for electricity to power cloud computing and AI poses a major climate risk if fueled by high-emission fossil fuels," Berry stated.

Brian Janous, Chief Commercial Officer and former Vice President of Energy at Microsoft, highlighted the importance of dedicated teams working with utility partners to maximize the use of existing clean technologies.

The management team also includes Jonathan Abebe, Chief Technical Officer, and Nur Bernhardt, Vice President, both bringing extensive experience from the energy and digital sectors.

Alfredo Marti, Partner at Sandbrook, praised the technical expertise of Cloverleaf's team, while Sam Stoutner, Partner at NGP, expressed confidence in the potential for clean-powered digital infrastructure development.
