European Energy Completes Sale of 90 MW Solar Project in Italy

European Energy has completed the sale of its 90 MW Cerano Energreen solar project in Brindisi, Puglia, marking another transaction in Italy’s growing renewable energy market.

The project, which is fully permitted and has a secured grid connection, has also been awarded a 20-year Contract for Difference (CfD) under Italy’s FerX renewable energy auction scheme. Financial details and the identity of the buyer were not disclosed.

Located adjacent to an existing industrial area in Brindisi, Cerano Energreen is expected to generate approximately 160,000 MWh of electricity annually once operational. According to European Energy, that would be enough to cover the annual consumption of around 55,000 Italian households.

The company said the project’s location supports the area’s transition from fossil-fuel generation toward renewable energy, while its development on already-industrialised land limits additional land consumption.

“This transaction reflects continued investor demand for de-risked renewable energy assets with secured revenue frameworks,” said Filippo Ricci, Country Manager Italy at European Energy.

Jens Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, added: “Transactions like this allow us to recycle capital efficiently while continuing to expand our development portfolio across Europe.”

The sale is part of European Energy’s strategy of developing and divesting renewable energy projects while reinvesting capital into its wider pipeline.

The company said it remains active in Italy and is currently constructing the 250 MW Vizzini agrivoltaic project in Sicily.
