European Energy Energises Northern Europe’s Largest Solar-Plus-Battery Park
European Energy has completed construction and successfully energised the Kvosted solar and battery park, now recognised as the largest combined solar and battery facility in Northern Europe. The site features a 200 MWh battery system integrated directly within the existing solar park, enabling efficient storage and dispatch of solar power when generation is low.
The Kvosted solar park has been operational since 2022. The newly installed battery modules allow electricity generated during high-output periods to be stored and supplied to the grid during evenings, cloudy days, or other low-generation periods. The battery system can power approximately 18,000 households for a full day, enhancing grid stability and flexibility.
European Energy EPC handled the full scope of work, including installation, electrical integration, and construction of supporting infrastructure, completing the project in just seven months. The facility will now enter a commissioning phase to test and prepare all components for full-scale operation.
According to Mads Lykke Andersen, Head of Technology Development at European Energy, this energisation marks the start of a wider roll-out of large-scale battery technology, with additional major projects planned for 2026. Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development, noted that by 2027, European Energy expects to install more than 1 GW of battery capacity across its markets.
The Kvosted project contributes to Denmark’s renewable energy goals by storing solar power to balance supply and demand, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support a stable electricity grid. The combined solar and battery park will be officially inaugurated on 2 February 2026, attended by Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard and Viborg’s Mayor Katrine Fusager Rohde.
