Exus Completes $312M Solar and Battery Storage Project in Rio Rancho

Exus Renewables North America has completed construction of a 190-megawatt solar and storage facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, bolstering the state's renewable energy infrastructure.

The TAG Solar + Storage project spans 1,000 acres and combines 140 megawatts of solar power with 50 megawatts of battery storage. The $312 million facility will supply clean energy to Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and help power Meta's growing data center in Los Lunas.

Brian Reindl, Vice President of Development at Exus, said the project aligns with both PNM's and Meta's renewable energy goals. PNM is aiming for 100% renewable energy by 2040, ahead of the state's 2045 target.

The project was developed in partnership with Gridworks, an Albuquerque-based solar and storage solutions firm. Bob Bellemare, CEO of Gridworks, highlighted the collaboration and emphasized the pride in building high-quality infrastructure: "We like to say, 'build it like you own it.'"

Over 250 jobs were created during construction. The facility is expected to contribute over $17 million in tax revenue to Sandoval County and local schools over the next 30 years.

Exus currently operates nine solar projects across New Mexico, including in Sandoval, Bernalillo, Torrance, and Valencia counties, and near Deming.

The Rio Rancho project stands among the largest utility-scale storage installations in the region and marks a significant step toward achieving New Mexico's clean energy future.
