Fidra Energy Acquires 1GW Battery Storage Project From Innova
Fidra Energy, a European battery energy storage system (BESS) developer backed by EIG and the National Wealth Fund, has acquired the Enderby battery storage project from Innova, strengthening its expanding UK pipeline.
Located in Leicestershire’s Blaby District, the project secured planning consent in May 2025 and has been confirmed as eligible for the UK’s first long-duration energy storage cap-and-floor scheme. A regulatory decision is expected in summer 2026, with a final investment decision targeted for 2027 and operations anticipated in 2029.
Once operational, Enderby is expected to deliver up to 1,025MW of capacity, positioning it among the largest battery storage developments in the UK. The acquisition increases Fidra Energy’s UK pipeline to over 4GW, alongside its ongoing developments at Thorpe Marsh and West Burton.
Welcoming the deal, Morris Van Looy, Chief Growth & Strategy Officer at Fidra Energy, described it as “another major milestone in the expansion of our UK portfolio” that “demonstrates our ambition to deliver large-scale battery storage infrastructure at pace to support the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.” He added that the company is “delighted to be working with Innova,” highlighting their experience in engaging local stakeholders and communities.
From the seller side, Daniel Mushin, Chief Finance & Investment Officer at Innova, noted they are “delighted to have completed the sale of the Enderby project to Fidra,” calling it their “third utility scale transmission connected battery storage project in the last 12 months.” He added that these projects together will amount to “over 2.4 GW of new capacity,” contributing significantly to the UK’s clean energy targets.
