Harmony Expands Grid-Scale Storage With New French BESS
Harmony Energy has begun construction on its third 100MW/200MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in France, the Foriaux BESS, located in Eure, Normandy. The company announced the milestone on LinkedIn on 31 March.
This project follows two other 100MW/200MWh BESS projects in France—Chevire and Oise—which have already reached the construction stage. Both were sold to Swiss-based power firm Alpiq, with Chevire commissioned in summer 2025 and Oise scheduled for operation in 2026.
According to Harmony Energy CEO Peter Kavanagh, France’s BESS market currently benefits from high ancillary service prices, though revenues are expected to shift toward day-ahead and arbitrage markets in the coming years. Clément Girard, managing director of Harmony Energy France, noted that the Foriaux BESS was designed with landscape integration, biodiversity, and community benefit in mind.
The supplier for Foriaux’s BESS has not been disclosed. Previous French and UK projects have largely used Tesla, which is also supplying the largest BESS in France—the 240MW/480MWh system by TagEnergy.
With construction underway, Foriaux reinforces Harmony Energy’s strategic expansion of grid-scale storage in France, contributing to energy transition goals and grid flexibility across Europe.
