Lumea Energizes Australia’s Renewable Grid with Groundbreaking Battery Storage Project

Transgrid Group's subsidiary, Lumea, is poised to facilitate the connection of a monumental Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to Australia's grid. This initiative forms a crucial part of ACEN Australia's $768 million project, which encompasses the expansive New England Solar Farm near Uralla in the proposed New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

The BESS, initially sized at 50MW and scalable up to 200MW, promises two hours of storage capacity, effectively catering to the energy needs of approximately 250,000 households in New South Wales (NSW). The integration of this battery system alongside the solar farm marks a pivotal moment in Transgrid's commitment to bolstering Australia's renewable energy infrastructure.

Expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration, Transgrid CEO Brett Redman highlighted the project's significance in advancing Australia's energy transition. He emphasized the tangible benefits for consumers, with increased access to affordable and eco-friendly energy solutions.

Craig Stallan, the newly appointed Executive General Manager of Lumea, underscored the importance of such storage projects in fortifying the grid's resilience and expanding access to renewable energy across the nation. Stallan lauded Lumea's adept connections team and reaffirmed their dedication to innovation in serving the Australian market.

ACEN Australia Managing Director, David Pollington, hailed the BESS as a milestone achievement within their broader solar initiative, emphasizing its contribution to the National Electricity Market (NEM). With a target completion slated for 2025, this collaboration between Lumea and ACEN Australia sets a precedent for future renewable energy endeavors, propelling Australia towards a cleaner, sustainable energy future.
