Massive Underground Hydrogen Battery Takes Shape in Utah

In the quiet town of Delta, Utah, a colossal underground battery is taking shape, promising to reshape the landscape of clean energy. The Advanced Clean Energy Storage project is constructing two caverns, each as deep as the Empire State Building is tall, using geological salt formations. Developers, including Chevron, plan to produce hydrogen using excess solar and wind power during low-demand seasons and store it in the caverns. In the summer, the stored hydrogen will be burned in a power plant, reducing reliance on coal.
