E.ON and PSI Partner to Develop Intelligent Grid Control System for the Future

12 Feb 2025
E.ON and PSI have announced a long-term partnership to implement a new, standardized network control system for E.ON's grid operations across Germany. This system aims to improve the reliability, security, and efficiency of the electricity and gas grids, which are critical to managing the increasing integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, along with emerging technologies like electric vehicles and heat pumps.

The collaboration centers around PSI's modular "Control System of the Future" (CSF), which will reduce long-term operating and maintenance costs while supporting increased automation and flexibility. The platform's open software architecture is designed to adapt to future grid demands and ensure future-proofed management.

By 2029, E.ON plans to standardize control systems for all German distribution system operators, and the partnership with PSI plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal. The first pilot system is slated for deployment in early 2028.

Harald Heß, Senior Vice President Energy Networks Technology & Innovation at E.ON, emphasized the importance of this system in supporting Germany's energy transition. Robert Klaffus, CEO of PSI, expressed pride in the partnership, noting that it reflects the company's strategy of leading the future of grid management.
