E.ON Next Partners with Kraken to Launch AI-Powered Smart Tariffs

29 May 2025
E.ON Next has partnered with Kraken, the smart energy platform developed by Octopus Energy, to introduce new AI-driven flexible energy products for UK households. The collaboration centers around a new system called ResidentialFlex, aimed at making energy use smarter and more affordable.

ResidentialFlex is a flexible demand management platform that automatically shifts household energy usage from devices such as EV chargers, heat pumps, and home batteries to times when electricity is cheaper or when there's an oversupply of clean energy on the grid. It also supports local grid balancing.

The platform will initially target over five million E.ON Next customers who already have smart meters. The first offerings will include EV-focused tariffs, allowing customers to optimize charging times to save money and reduce strain on the grid.

Amir Orad, CEO of Kraken, called the move "a key step" toward building a smarter national energy system and emphasized the need to rethink traditional energy consumption models.

Kraken is already known for powering Intelligent Octopus Go, which has managed over 1GW of EV battery capacity through its virtual power plant (VPP) model. E.ON Next joins other major utilities such as EDF, which began migrating customers to the Kraken platform last year.
