Eco Wave Power Launches Israel’s First Wave Energy Pilot Project

27 Nov 2024
Eco Wave Power is set to inaugurate Israel's first wave energy pilot station on Thursday, December 5, at Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port. This groundbreaking project, developed in collaboration with EDF Renewables Israel, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and Atarim, highlights the country's commitment to renewable energy innovation.

The EWP-EDF One Project utilizes wave energy technology to generate clean electricity for Israel's national grid. The system includes 10 floaters installed along Jaffa Port's breakwater, connected to a land-based energy conversion unit. This design ensures easier maintenance and upgrades compared to traditional offshore systems.

"This project at Jaffa Port represents a historic milestone in the global renewable energy journey, proving that sea waves can be a viable, clean, and consistent source of electricity," said Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power.

The wave energy station, with a capacity of 100 kW, has been connected to the national electrical grid since August 2023. It also serves as a public education center, supported by the EU's GREENinMED grant, to raise awareness about wave energy's potential.

The EWP-EDF One project underscores Eco Wave Power's commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions. Having tested the system under real conditions since July 2022, the company secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Israeli National Electric Company (IEC) under an official feed-in tariff.

Eco Wave Power's innovation aligns with global efforts to diversify renewable energy sources and demonstrates how wave energy can contribute to sustainable power generation.
