Ecuador’s Celec Seeks Equipment Suppliers for Power Transmission

3 May 2023

Ecuador's state power corporation, Celec, has announced its intention to purchase dispatch equipment with a budget of almost $20m.

Celec's transmission unit, Transelectric, has invited bids for autotransformers, transformers, and air-insulated primary equipment for replacement work and the expansion of substations in several areas of the country.

The equipment is expected to resolve technical problems and breakdowns in the national transmission system, improve the reliability of power supply, and in most cases, increase the transformation capacity of the substations to meet growing demand. Bids for the 510-day contract are due by May 31, according to procurement information.

This procurement move is a crucial step for Celec and Transelectric to ensure reliable electricity supply in the country amid the growing demand from different sectors. The equipment purchase will also enable them to overcome technical challenges and breakdowns in the national transmission system. It is yet to be seen which suppliers will be selected, but this procurement is expected to drive more interest from equipment providers in Ecuador's growing power sector.
