Edison Plans Over 500 MW of New Renewable Projects for 2026
Edison will launch more than 500 MW of new renewable energy construction sites in 2026, following strong results in Italy’s FER-X auctions, the company announced in a press release. The projects add to the 250 MW already under construction.
The new capacity includes over 300 MW of wind power—featuring full repowering with next-generation turbines—and roughly 200 MW of photovoltaic installations. Most developments will be located in Piedmont, Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia and Sicily. Total investment is expected to exceed $698 million (€600 million), supporting around 1,000 workers and 200 suppliers.
Chief Executive Nicola Monti said the auction results reinforce Edison’s competitiveness and support its goal of doubling installed green capacity in the coming years. The company has already completed approximately 200 MW of new renewable capacity in the first ten months of 2025, a 38% increase in investment over the previous year.
Executive Vice President Marco Stangalino confirmed that an additional 250 MW will come online in 2026, while the company advances large-scale flexibility solutions. Edison is studying five potential hydroelectric pumping sites across southern Italy, targeting at least 500 MW of new storage capacity.
The renewable rollout will benefit from up to $931 million (€800 million) in financing secured through an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB), which may fund up to 75% of project costs under REPowerEU-aligned criteria.
With nearly 8 GW of installed capacity, Edison continues to expand its portfolio of wind, solar, hydroelectric and high-efficiency CCGT plants across Italy.
