EDP and Meta Sign Agreement for 250 MW Solar Project in the United States
EDP Renewables and Meta have entered into a long-term agreement for a 250-megawatt (MW) solar energy project in the United States, marking another step in the expansion of corporate renewable energy procurement.
The agreement centers on the Cypress Knee Solar project, which is planned to be developed in Arkansas. Once operational, the project is expected to contribute new renewable energy capacity to the regional grid and support Meta’s broader clean energy strategy.
According to details of the agreement, the solar installation will supply power under a power purchase agreement (PPA) structure, a common mechanism used by large corporations to secure long-term renewable energy supply while enabling new project development.
This latest deal represents the third collaboration between the two companies, bringing their total contracted renewable capacity to approximately 545 MW in the United States.
The project is expected to be located in Chicot County, Arkansas, with construction anticipated to be completed by 2028, subject to development timelines and regulatory approvals.
The agreement aligns with Meta’s stated objective of matching 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy, particularly as demand for energy-intensive digital infrastructure continues to grow.
For EDP Renewables, the deal reinforces its presence in the North American market and reflects a broader strategy focused on long-term contracted renewable assets and partnerships with large corporate energy buyers.
Corporate PPAs such as this one have become an increasingly important driver of renewable energy deployment globally, enabling companies to directly support the development of new clean energy capacity while managing long-term energy costs.
