EDP Renewables Connects Two Major Solar Projects in Italy

10 Dec 2024
EDP Renewables (EDPR) has strengthened its presence in Italy by connecting two large-scale solar plants, Castrum 13 in Montalto di Castro and Tuscia 21 in Tuscania, both located in the Viterbo region. Together, these projects add a combined capacity of 103 MWp (82 MWac) and will generate over 156 GWh annually, supplying clean energy to nearly 60,000 households while preventing approximately 67,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

This achievement comes shortly after EDPR launched its largest solar project in Italy, the 72 MWp Tuscania plant, and follows the earlier completion of the 10 MWp Boccadoro facility in Puglia.

Roberto Pasqua, Executive Director for South and East Europe at EDPR, emphasized the company's dedication to supporting Italy's renewable energy targets:

"These projects highlight our commitment to Italy's energy transition. In the coming months, we aim to add more than 200 MW of new solar and wind projects, further contributing to the country's clean energy goals."

Since entering the Italian market in 2010, EDPR has focused on both wind and solar energy, amassing nearly 1 GW of installed and under-construction capacity. Additionally, through its distributed generation arm, EDP Energia Italia, the company has built over 130 MWp of solar plants for industrial clients, signing contracts for 54.5 MWp and installing 51.5 MWp for commercial customers in 2023 alone.

Italy's ambitious renewable energy targets rely on active participation from industry leaders like EDPR, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable future for the region.
