Eletrobras has renewed its long-standing partnership with Hitachi Energy for continued maintenance and digital support of the Rio Madeira high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system in Brazil.

The 2,375-kilometer HVDC link, one of the longest in the world, has been operating under Hitachi Energy's EnCompass™ long-term service agreement for over a decade. The link transmits 3.15 GW of power--enough to supply electricity to around 45 million people.

The extended contract includes the integration of digital solutions for real-time system monitoring, along with enhanced cybersecurity features to protect critical infrastructure. The system is controlled by the MACH™ control and protection platform, which ensures performance optimization throughout the HVDC system's lifecycle.

Andreas Berthou, Head of HVDC & HVDC Service at Hitachi Energy, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating the renewed agreement reflects shared values of "trust, transparency, and sustainability."

Eletrobras has highlighted the deal as part of its commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient energy delivery. The collaboration supports Brazil's broader energy transition by helping modernize infrastructure that brings clean, renewable energy from the Amazon to major cities.
