PORT OF OSTEND, BELGIUM -- The European Commission is aiming to make offshore renewable energy "a core component of Europe's energy system" by increasing Europe's offshore wind capacity to 300 GW by 2050.

Elia Group recently hosted its first Offshore Innovation Day at the Port of Ostend. The event brought together specialists to discuss the future of the offshore sector. The even ranged from speeches, over discussions, to showcases and demonstrations of innovative projects from a range of teams and partner organizations including TideWise, Marlinks, uWare Robotics, GEOxyz, Optalay Limited, SABCA and e-BO Enterprises. According to the Group, the goal of the event was the fostering of collaboration and the co-creation of offshore assets.


As Elia Group's CEO, Chris Peeters, noted during the event, offshore electricity grids are becoming increasingly complex and innovation and collaboration are therefore essential for building and maintaining offshore infrastructure.
