Enbridge Commits $900M to 600 MW Texas Solar Project for Meta
Enbridge Inc. has confirmed a final investment decision on the Clear Fork solar project, a 600-megawatt (MW) utility-scale solar facility near San Antonio, Texas. The company estimates the project cost at approximately US$900 million, with construction already underway. Clear Fork is expected to begin operations in summer 2027.
The renewable energy produced by Clear Fork will be supplied entirely under a long-term contract to Meta Platforms, Inc., supporting the tech giant's data center operations with 100% clean energy. The project is projected to boost Enbridge's cash flow and earnings per share starting in 2027.
Matthew Akman, Enbridge's Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and President of Power, emphasized the rising demand for renewable energy among major technology companies and highlighted Enbridge's approach of leveraging its financial strength and expertise to deliver strong returns through low-risk projects.
Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing Meta's commitment to powering operations with renewable energy and expanding clean energy in Texas.
This initiative reflects the growing trend of corporate renewable energy procurement in North America, particularly in sectors focused on sustainability and digital infrastructure.
