Enbridge Powers Up First Texas Solar Farm with AT&T Purchase Agreement

5 Jun 2025
Enbridge, a Canada-based energy infrastructure company, has officially launched its first solar project in Texas. The 130-MW Orange Grove Solar facility, located in Jim Wells County, will supply clean energy to the state's ERCOT power grid.

The installation spans 920 acres and features approximately 300,000 solar panels. The project is backed by a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with AT&T, enabling the telecom company to stabilize energy costs and advance its carbon-reduction goals.

Matthew Akman, EVP of Corporate Strategy and President of Power at Enbridge, said the project delivers "zero-emission electricity into the grid in support of local and Texas statewide economic growth and energy demand."

This move reflects Enbridge's growing clean energy portfolio, though the company remains a dominant player in fossil fuel infrastructure. A second, significantly larger solar farm--Sequoia Solar, projected at 815 MW--is already under development southeast of Abilene, Texas.

Maja Nisbet, Manager of Power Projects at Enbridge, acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the project, thanking local communities, landowners, and officials for their support.
