Enercon to Supply 19 Turbines for 116MW Wind Project in Bavaria
Enercon has secured an order to supply 19 wind turbines for a planned 116MW community wind project in the Steigerwald region of southern Germany.
The project is being developed by Naturenergie Zeilinger in collaboration with six municipalities and is expected to become operational by 2028, according to Bavaria’s economy ministry.
The wind farm has received backing from the government of Middle Franconia, which supported the grid connection process. Once completed, the facility will be connected to the network operated by N-ERGIE under a flexible grid agreement. The arrangement enables early grid access and is seen as a model that could be expanded across Bavaria.
The development aligns with Bavaria’s goal of installing 1,000 new wind turbines by 2030. State officials note that roughly the same number of turbines are currently in the permitting process or have already been approved.
Hubert Aiwanger, Bavaria’s economy minister, said wind energy complements the state’s photovoltaic capacity and highlighted the importance of expanding energy storage alongside generation.
Aiwanger also pointed to the role of the “reference yield” mechanism within Germany’s renewable energy auction system, which supports projects in lower-wind regions to compete more effectively in tenders. He called for an additional 5GW increase in auction volumes, echoing recent requests from project developers in southern Germany.
