At the annual energy efficiency ministerial conference in Versailles, France, the International Energy Agency (IEA) highlighted the need for a significant acceleration in energy efficiency improvements to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The IEA's analysis emphasized the crucial role of the industrial sector, the largest energy consumer, in combating climate change. In response, ABB's Energy Efficiency Movement, a global forum established in 2021, has been actively driving awareness and action towards a more energy-efficient world.

With the Movement approaching its third year, it has garnered the support of nearly 350 member organizations from over 30 countries, including industry leaders such as Alfa Laval, Danfoss, DHL Group, EY, Honeywell, Microsoft, and Wärtsilä. The forum has focused on raising awareness of energy efficiency opportunities among industrial and commercial companies and has engaged extensively with both the IEA and its members. The Movement recently published the Industrial energy efficiency playbook, providing practical solutions for executives to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Mike Umiker, appointed as the Managing Director of the Energy Efficiency Movement, emphasizes the critical role of energy efficiency in the global energy transition. As industry leaders join forces to transform energy usage practices, Umiker highlights the need to leverage existing technology and collective efforts to optimize energy consumption. The Movement's focus for the rest of 2023 will be on activating its network of movers to expand their reach and impact, while also deepening their focus on specific industry verticals and energy-efficient applications.

The Energy Efficiency Movement aims to serve as the voice of industry, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration to implement energy efficiency solutions worldwide. Through symposia, training programs, and events, the Movement will engage leaders and end-users, providing thought leadership and practical solutions to address energy-intensive areas. As the urgency to meet energy efficiency goals intensifies, the Movement strives to play a significant role in keeping global warming below the critical threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
