ABB and Allied Green Ammonia Join Forces for Large-Scale Green Hydrogen Project

ABB and Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the development of a large-scale green ammonia plant in Northern Territory, Australia. The facility, designed to produce 958,500 tons of green ammonia annually, is part of a broader effort to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Under the collaboration, ABB will provide key electrification and automation solutions, including scalable electrical micro-grid systems, DC and AC switchgear, and digital tools to support AGA in reaching its Final Investment Decision (FID). The project integrates a 4.75GW solar farm and a 3GW hydrogen electrolyzer facility to power the ammonia plant.

ABB's integrated eHouse and skid solutions, featuring ABB Ability™ digital technology, will help optimize execution, enhance cost predictability, and mitigate risks. These modular and scalable designs aim to maximize system efficiency and reliability.

According to Alfred Benedict, Chairman and Managing Director of AGA, the collaboration with ABB will help establish a strong foundation for the green ammonia economy in the Northern Territory.

The project marks a significant step in reducing carbon emissions by utilizing green hydrogen for ammonia production. Both companies emphasize the role of advanced technology and engineering expertise in achieving sustainability goals.
