Arkansas’ First Utility-Scale Wind Farm Now Operational
Cordelio Power has officially launched the 135 MW Crossover Wind Farm, marking the first utility-scale wind project in Arkansas. The project is located west of Memphis, Tennessee, and is now generating electricity.
Nick Karambelas, Chief Development Officer at Cordelio Power, highlighted that the project will deliver 100% of its power to Microsoft under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The farm is expected to provide about $950,000 annually to Cross County and more than $50 million to local landowners over its lifetime, all while allowing continued farming on the land.
M.A. Mortenson handled construction, and Vestas supplied 32 US-made V-163 4.5 MW turbines. Vestas will also manage long-term operations and maintenance. The project was originally developed by Steelhead Americas, Vestas’ North American development arm, starting in 2020 before Cordelio Power acquired it in late 2023.
The Crossover Wind Farm is a significant step for Arkansas’ renewable energy efforts, which include additional projects such as the Nimbus Wind Farm, and complements the state’s nuclear and solar power developments.
