Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm Nears Completion
Poland’s first offshore wind farm, Baltic Power, is approaching completion as installation works advance across its 76-turbine project in the Baltic Sea. Developed by ORLEN Group and Northland Power, the project has now installed 50 turbines, with remaining units scheduled for installation over the summer.
All foundations and transition pieces are already in place, while both offshore substations and onshore grid infrastructure have been completed and are ready for commissioning. A dedicated service base is also operational to support final installation and future maintenance activities.
Once fully operational, Baltic Power will have an installed capacity of approximately 1.2 GW and is expected to generate up to 4 TWh of electricity annually, covering around 3% of Poland’s current electricity demand and supplying more than 1.5 million households.
The project is located about 23 kilometres off the Polish coast, near Choczewo and Łeba. It is among the first offshore wind developments globally to deploy Vestas 15 MW turbines, currently the manufacturer’s largest offshore model produced in its European facilities.
Each turbine stands over 250 metres tall, with blades measuring 115.5 metres, sweeping an area larger than six football fields. According to Vestas, around 15% of the steel used is produced from recycled material in renewable-powered furnaces, reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by an estimated 10%.
Construction is now focused on offshore-onshore integration, including cabling and grid commissioning. As Maciej Stryjecki, President of Baltic Power, noted:
“We are installing further turbines and carrying out advanced cabling work, alongside tests and commissioning that will allow full integration with the national power system.”
The project is expected to become a cornerstone of Poland’s offshore wind expansion in the Baltic Sea, strengthening renewable generation capacity and supporting long-term energy security.
