European Energy Launches Denmark’s First 3-MW Green Hydrogen Facility

European Energy A/S has inaugurated a 3-MW green hydrogen production plant in Made, Esbjerg, marking its first large-scale venture into hydrogen production. This facility will supply Port Esbjerg and eventually expand into a 12-MW electrolysis complex.

The plant, equipped with Stiesdal A/S's electrolyser technology, successfully completed commissioning over the summer. With an expected annual production capacity of 270 tonnes of hydrogen, the facility will also provide excess heat to local utility DIN Forsyning. The complex is set to expand further, with two additional electrolysers scheduled, the next of which is anticipated for installation in 2025. Once fully operational, the complex aims to produce approximately 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen each year.

"This facility is just the beginning. Through the many learnings we have captured by designing, constructing, and commissioning the plant, we will be able to reduce cost and time for future plants while improving project economics," stated Emil Vikjaer-Andresen, Head of Power-to-X at European Energy.

In partnership with Centrica as its balancing and optimization contractor, European Energy seeks to advance the Made plant's efficiency and economic impact, reinforcing Denmark's commitment to green hydrogen.
