European Investment Bank backs major Polenergia wind project in Poland

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved financing of more than US$304 million (€260 million) to support the construction of Poland's second-largest onshore wind farm, strengthening investment in the country's renewable energy sector. The funding will support the Grabowo wind project, developed by Polenergia, in north-western Poland.

The project will have an installed capacity of 136MW and is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to supply more than 180,000 households annually. According to the EIB, the investment will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting Poland's efforts to expand renewable energy generation and improve energy security.

Teresa Czerwińska, Vice-President of the EIB, said the financing demonstrates the bank's continued support for Poland's energy transition, adding that expanding renewable generation is important for strengthening the country's energy independence and competitiveness.

The loan forms part of the EIB's broader programme to finance clean energy infrastructure across Europe. The bank has been a significant lender to renewable energy projects in Poland, including both onshore and offshore wind developments, as the country works to diversify its electricity mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
