Hyundai E&C-Backed Lucy Solar Project Starts Construction in Texas
Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has begun full construction on the Lucy solar power project in Concho County, Texas, following the completion of financing and preparatory work.
The project is developed by the Team Korea consortium, which includes Hyundai E&C, Korea Midland Power, Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp., EIP Asset Management, and the PIS fund. The facility will have a capacity of 350 megawatts and cover approximately 11.7 million square meters, equivalent to more than 1,600 soccer fields.
Primoris, a U.S.-based construction firm, will lead the build, while Korea Midland Power will operate the plant. Hyundai E&C has been involved since the early development stage, providing equity investment, technical reviews, and solar modules.
Construction will include the installation of solar trackers, high-voltage equipment, and modules. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2027, with commercial operations to begin afterward.
Once operational, the plant is expected to generate 926 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, sufficient to power approximately 260,000 four-person households. Electricity from the facility will be sold through virtual power purchase agreements to global companies, including Starbucks and Workday.
