Iberdrola Connects 166 MW Tower Solar Plant to Grid in Oregon
Iberdrola has connected its Tower Solar photovoltaic plant to the regional electricity grid in Morrow County, Oregon, marking a new addition to its renewable energy portfolio in the United States.
Developed through its US subsidiary Avangrid, the facility has a capacity of 166 MWdc (120 MWac) and includes more than 250,000 solar panels. The project is expected to enter full commercial operation in summer 2026, following the completion of final commissioning works.
The electricity generated will be delivered to the Portland General Electric grid and primarily serve municipal, commercial, and industrial customers. A significant share of output is expected to support the operations of QTS (Quality Technology Services), a major provider of digital infrastructure and data centre services.
The project is integrated into the utility’s Green Future Impact (GFI) programme, which enables large energy users to access dedicated renewable supply as part of their decarbonisation strategies.
Iberdrola stated that the development reflects rising electricity demand in the US, particularly in the north-west region, and supports its broader strategy of expanding renewable capacity tied to industrial and digital growth.
Through Avangrid, the group operates more than 11,000 MW of installed capacity across nearly 100 facilities in 25 US states.
