Norway’s First Major Offshore Wind Project Contract Signed

A contract for the Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind project has been signed, marking a key milestone in Norway's journey toward renewable energy production. Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland emphasized the project's potential to drive Norway's ambitions in the offshore wind sector and stimulate growth in the Norwegian supply industry.

The project is spearheaded by Ventyr SN II, a company owned by global renewable energy giant Parkwind, JERA Nex, and Ingka Investments, the investment arm of the largest IKEA retailer, Ingka Group. The consortium combines Parkwind's expertise in offshore wind farm development with Ingka Investments' financial resources and commitment to sustainability. Their strategic partnership with NorSea Group also plays a crucial role in the project, thanks to NorSea's extensive experience in port operations.

François van Leeuw, representing Ventyr, expressed enthusiasm for the Sørlige Nordsjø II project's potential. He noted the consortium's dedication to positive change through renewable energy innovation, aiming to benefit both local communities and Norway as a whole. The project aligns with Norway's vision to generate 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2040.

Norwegian authorities have been actively working to foster the growth of offshore renewable energy since opening the first areas for production on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2020. The government's cooperation with industry partners and other sea users continues to shape the regulatory framework for this emerging sector.
