Oxan Energy Secures Estonia’s First Floating Offshore Wind Project
Oxan Energy, a France-based offshore wind developer, has secured Estonia's first tender for a floating offshore wind project. In partnership with SNOW, a financial advisor specializing in renewable energy, Oxan Energy will develop the 'Saare 1' project with a potential capacity of 900 MW.
The project, located 60 kilometers off Saaremaa Island, covers an 88-square-kilometer area with water depths up to 85 meters. Utilizing floating wind technology, the project may also integrate bottom-fixed turbines based on environmental and technical assessments. These studies will begin with an environmental impact assessment, determining the farm's design and layout.
The project is scheduled for commissioning by 2033 and aligns with Estonia's ambitions to generate 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. The Baltic country has implemented streamlined permitting processes, improved grid connections, and upgraded port infrastructure to support its dynamic offshore wind sector.
Nicolas Paul-Dauphin, CEO of Oxan Energy, emphasized the significance of the project: "Estonia has made significant steps to deploy offshore wind energy. Oxan Energy feels privileged to contribute to the decarbonization of Estonia and strengthen our presence in Europe."
The development of Saare 1 marks a significant milestone for Estonia's renewable energy sector, enhancing energy independence and promoting clean, sustainable power.
