Scotland Approves Major Caledonia Offshore Wind Project

Ocean Winds has secured offshore consent from the Scottish Government for its 2GW Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm, advancing one of Scotland’s largest planned offshore wind projects.

Located in the Moray Firth, around 40 kilometres from shore, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power two million homes. Developed through the ScotWind leasing round by Crown Estate Scotland, Caledonia will also support regional economic growth alongside Ocean Winds’ existing Moray East and Moray West projects.

The approval follows Aberdeenshire Council granting onshore consent earlier this year, clearing a major regulatory milestone. Ocean Winds expects offshore construction to begin in 2030, subject to securing a Contracts for Difference (CfD) agreement and reaching a final investment decision.

“This is the culmination of years of hard work by our Caledonia team,” said Mark Baxter, Caledonia Project Director. “The Scottish Government’s decision to grant consent is greatly welcomed and allows us to press ahead with this exciting project.”

Adam Morrison, UK Country Manager for Ocean Winds, said the approval marks a new phase for the development, stating: “Caledonia is built on Ocean Winds’ proud legacy in the Moray Firth; this welcome decision by the Scottish Government to grant offshore consent allows us to write the next chapter.”
