TransWest Express Breaks Ground on Landmark Clean Energy Transmission Line

The TransWest Express Transmission Project (TWE), a groundbreaking initiative, has officially commenced construction.

TWE aims to transport clean energy generated by the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre wind farm, the largest onshore wind project in North America, from Wyoming to the US Southwest. With a price tag of $5 billion, the project consists of a 3,000-megawatt wind farm comprising 600 turbines in Carbon County, Wyoming. The transmission line will provide 3,000 megawatts of new capacity and extend over 732 miles, connecting south-central Wyoming to southern Nevada.

TWE's primary purpose is to deliver affordable electricity to consumers in California, Nevada, and Arizona. The project will interconnect with various regional power systems, including PacifiCorp, Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, Intermountain Power systems, NV Energy, and the California Independent System Operator. Additionally, TWE will generate over 1,000 jobs during its construction phase, further boosting the local economy.

As part of the US government's commitment to clean energy, the Biden administration has set a target of achieving a net-zero power sector by 2035. TWE, along with the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre wind farm, is scheduled to be operational by late 2027, contributing significantly to the nation's renewable energy goals. By facilitating the transmission of clean electricity from Wyoming's abundant wind resources, TWE represents a vital step towards a sustainable and decarbonized future for the United States.
