Entergy Mississippi Begins $300M Project to Modernize Power Grid
Entergy Mississippi announced its largest-ever power grid upgrade, a $300 million project named Superpower Mississippi, aimed at improving electricity reliability across the state.
The initiative includes installing stronger utility poles, expanding tree trimming programs, and deploying advanced smart grid technology. Officials say the upgrades could reduce power outages by up to 50%.
Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi, said the improvements come at no additional cost to residential customers. Funding will be supported by increased revenues from industrial clients, including Amazon and AVAIO.
"We're increasing a 50% increase in reliability spend at no cost to customers because the revenues that are coming in for this new industrial growth in the area. So, we're excited about this, to bring these new investments and to improve the grid, improve service to our customers and to our communities," Fisackerly said.
The current grid, officials note, is aging and has been in need of modernization. Reliability work is set to begin immediately, focusing on reinforcing infrastructure and integrating modern technology to better manage power distribution.
