Entergy to Build $1.2B Transmission Line for Meta’s 2GW Louisiana Data Center
Entergy, a Louisiana-based utility, has announced plans to build a $1.2 billion, 100-mile, 500kV transmission line to serve Meta's upcoming 2GW data center campus in Richland Parish, northeast Louisiana.
The infrastructure project is part of Entergy's commitment to powering the planned Hyperion data center, which was first announced in December 2024. The massive facility will span 2,250 acres between Rayville and Delhi, with up to nine buildings expected to be completed in phases through 2030.
According to the 2025 MISO Transmission Plan, the new transmission line is set to be operational by December 2026, significantly ahead of schedule. Entergy has also proposed building three combined-cycle combustion turbines totaling 2,260MW, along with two utility-owned substations, six customer-owned substations, and eight 230kV transmission lines to fully support the site.
In a recent earnings call, Entergy CEO Drew Marsh confirmed a settlement with the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) staff and other parties, recommending approval of the investment required to integrate the data center into the grid.
While the project faced opposition from environmental groups over the proposed natural gas generation, Meta has pledged to offset most costs by covering full annual revenue requirements for the plants over a 15-year period.
Entergy noted a growing pipeline of large energy consumers, citing 5GW to 10GW of potential demand from data center clients. In response, the utility has increased its four-year capital expenditure outlook by $3 billion to accommodate this growth.
